Dress Guidelines
• Dress should be neat, clean, modest, well kept, and appropriate for a Christian learning environment. • Dress should not draw undue attention to the student nor detract from the learning environment. • Dress should not draw undue attention to a person’s body and sexuality. • Dress should not include representations or codes from any culture, product, or group out of harmony with the principles established by the school. Students are expected to harmonize with the school’s image and dress policy at all extracurricular events (banquets, trips, programs, athletic games, vespers, etc.) as well as in the classroom and on campus. The school will announce any variations from normal school attire that may be allowed for special events. As dress styles change, guidelines may change accordingly. GRADES 9-12 Ladies —What may be worn above the belt Polo pullovers, oxford shirts, buttoned Nice, thick, plain, blank, round neck, solid color non-white T-shirts with full sleeves (including any school-sponsored shirts) that are in good repair. Tops must cover the midriff and may not be see-through, spandex, or form-fitting. Sweatshirts, zip-ups, and sweaters appropriate for a Christian atmosphere —What may be worn below the belt Nice jeans and various pant styles and skirts, all below the knee when seated Gentlemen —What may be worn above the belt Polo pullovers, oxford shirts, buttoned and tucked in Nice, thick, plain, blank, round neck, solid color non-white T-shirts with full sleeves (including any school sponsored-shirts) that are in good repair and tucked in Sweatshirts, zip-ups, and sweaters appropriate for a Christian atmosphere —What may be worn below the belt Nice jeans and pants that fit well, long walking shorts Ladies & Gentlemen Hats, caps, sun visors, hairnets, and other head coverings are not acceptable school attire. Sport-team logos or insignias of any kind may not be worn on any clothing. Attire worn and altered in such a way as to identify a student with non-school clubs, teams, or gangs is not allowed. This includes but is not limited to: sagging pants, bandanas, purses, insignias, hanging belts, studded belts, chains, suspenders off the shoulder, and gang-related initials on belt-buckles. Closed-toe shoes must be worn at all times. Sandals are not allowed. Appropriate footwear must be worn for PE classes, varsity games, and science labs. Hair must be neat and well groomed. Avoid hairstyles extreme in length or styles that identify one with a lifestyle in conflict with Christian principles. Jewelry is not allowed including studs and band-aids worn to disguise recent ear piercing. The decision as to whether clothing is appropriate or not will be made by the classroom teacher. Students violating the dress code rules are subject to disciplinary action. The following procedure will be implemented for written referrals: 1st referral: Above the belt — Student must purchase a school-sponsored T-shirt from the office. Parents will be notified and the charge for the shirt will be billed to the parent. The student will receive a tardy and/or absence for the class. Below the belt — Student will be sent to the office to make the necessary changes. The student will receive a tardy and/or absence for the class. 2nd referral: Same as above. 3rd referral: The student will receive an in-house suspension with two options: • Student may choose an unexcused all-day absence with no opportunity for make-up work and must study or read in the office during normal school hours. • Student may choose to spend the normal school day performing campus care tasks as assigned under the supervision of administration. Skipping in-house suspension will result in off-campus suspension. 4th referral: The student will be required to wear a school-sponsored uniform for the remainder of the quarter. All charges will be billed to the parent. 5th referral: The student will be required to wear a school-sponsored uniform for the remainder of the year. All charges will be billed to the parent. The student will begin each quarter with no referrals. However, if a second fourth referral is earned at any time, the student will be required to wear a school-sponsored uniform for the remainder of the year. Failure to comply may result in dismissal.
